A tragic crash in Des Plaines has resulted in the death of a 49-year-old woman, identified by authorities as Nazly Rodriguez-Munoz, after a car she was a passenger in rear-ended a semi truck late Sunday night, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. The accident occurred on Algonquin Road near Leslie Lane.
Police reports detailed by the WGN-TV share that Rodriguez-Munoz was in a Toyota Prius, driven by 28-year-old Giovanna Rodriguez-Fuentes, which collided with the Volvo semi-truck under unclear circumstances. Rodriguez-Fuentes told police the truck was parked without lights despite the darkness, while the truck driver claimed he was moving slowly along the road at the time of the collision.
First responders worked rapidly to assist Rodriguez-Munoz, who was "bleeding heavily from her leg," according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Police applied a tourniquet before fire department personnel transported her to a nearby hospital, but despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries. The crash is still under investigation.
