A somber mood hangs over DeKalb County following a late-night tragedy at a local shopping center. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Patrick O’Neil Almond, a 30-year-old disabled military veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps, succumbed to stab wounds near an insurance office on Lavista Road before collapsing at a nearby gas station. Speaking to family, he was identified as the man who fell victim to this senseless act of violence.
Despite efforts by local law enforcement, updates on the stabbing have been scarce. The police, working through the early hours, have yet to provide an official suspect or motive. However, FOX 5 revealed a woman who was with Almond has been taken in for questioning, though her role in the incident remains unclear.
A report by Atlanta News First mentioned that officers discovered Almond's body near a pump at the gas station after responding to a 911 call shortly after midnight. Clues are being pieced together, with the hopes that surrounding businesses' surveillance footage can cast light on the perpetrator and the circumstances leading to this tragic outcome.
"She seen his shirt, and it had a bunch of stab marks on it, but she said she knew something was wrong because she said his chest wasn't compressing up and down," Courtney Frazier told FOX 5. Her co-worker's discovery underscores the brutality witnessed that night. The DeKalb County Police Department encourages anyone with information to come forward.
