Chaparral residents can expect to see some heavy machinery and hard hats in the coming months as the Doña Ana County Utilities Department has kicked off a wastewater improvement project aimed at beefing up the area's sewage system. The hustle to improve the infrastructure began on April 28 on Edna Drive, with an end goal penciled in for July 8. According to Doña Ana County, workers will be braving the depths to install new sewer pipes and manholes.

But the project doesn't halt there, Smith Co., the contractor helming the operation, will roll out its equipment on West Lisa Drive and in the De Lara Estates area to lay down more of the new sewer infrastructure. The ground will break for this phase of construction in early June, with an outlook to wrap it up by October. Residents along these routes are bracing for inconvenience as the construction will involve digging up roads, potentially leading to traffic snarls and delays.

Drivers are urged to exercise patience and attentiveness when navigating the work zones. Detour signages are set to be deployed to shepherd traffic safely around construction hotspots. As neighborhoods prepare for the riff-raff that invariably accompanies such major public works, the county has reminded everyone that while the project has set dates, these are subject to the rhythm and pace of the on-ground efforts.
