The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken into custody two residents of Douglas, Georgia, in relation to a tragic event that culminated in the death of a 7-month-old infant. The individuals arrested are Guillermo "Will" Pineda, 29, and Hannah Green, 27, the mother of the deceased child, according to a press release from the GBI.
Following a call to Coffee County 911 about an infant in distress, EMTs encountered the child unresponsive in the 400 block of Kamera Road last Friday. The baby was initially resuscitated at Coffee Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Savannah Memorial Hospital, where multiple injuries indicative of abuse were discovered. Pineda is charged with an array of serious charges, including Malice Murder and Felony Murder, while Green is accused of Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree and Tampering with Evidence. When taken into custody without incident, both Pineda and Green are being held at the Coffee County Jail.
According to the GBI release, Pineda allegedly had a history of abusing the child and Green was purportedly aware of the abuse. Following the infant's fatal incident, Green attempted to conceal information concerning Pineda's abusive history and her knowledge thereof from investigators.
The child, whose life was short and wrought with pain, passed away on Monday, still in the hospital. An autopsy to ascertain the specific cause and manner of death will be completed by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Pooler. In the ongoing investigation, the GBI is urging anyone with insightful information to come forward and contact the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Douglas or the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office. Anonymous tips can be submitted via phone, online, or through the "See Something, Send Something" mobile app. After the completion of the GBI's investigation, the case file will be turned over to the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for further action.
