
A Department of Public Safety trooper suffered injuries in a collision on State Route 24 in Mesa, as confirmed by the Mesa Police Department. The crash, involving a DPS motorcycle and a vehicle, occurred around 7:30 p.m. Friday, and led to the trooper being hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. ABC15 reported that emergency services responded swiftly to the intersection of State Route 24 at Signal Butte Road upon receiving the call of the crash.
According to the 12News, the northbound lanes of Signal Butte Road near State Route 24 were shut down following the incident, the DPS trooper was reportedly responding to a call with lights and sirens activated and proceeded through a red light at the intersection where the collision took place with a vehicle that was attempting a left turn onto the westbound freeway. A subsequent investigation into the accident's details is currently underway, and additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
The driver involved in the crash was reported to have only minor injuries and received treatment at the scene; no further details regarding the driver's condition or identity have been disclosed at this point. "The DPS trooper was responding with lights and sirens to a call and was eastbound on the SR-24 freeway passing through the Signal Butte Rd intersection," Mesa police said, "The trooper proceeded through a red light at this intersection, a vehicle in a left turn lane on northbound Signal Butte Rd was attempting to turn left onto the westbound SR-24 freeway when it struck the DPS motorcycle."
