Early yesterday morning in Holyoke, an unfortunate event unfolded as a vehicle, steered by a 26-year-old Springfield man, slammed into the valued monuments at John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza. Holyoke Police Department divulged through a social media post that charges are in the making for the driver, who was found with a passenger, both requiring medical intervention at the scene.
Arriving at Suffolk and Sycamore Streets at around 4:25 a.m., officers were met with the scene of a collapsed heritage, a single car entangled amidst the solemnity of the JFK memorials. It was Holyoke's own who pried open the vehicle's door, extracting, with the urgency of fire fighters by their side, the individuals inside, and introduced Narcan into their veins.
As a consequence of his actions, the driver now faces potential legal repercussions. "The driver was cited, and Officers will be seeking a criminal complaint against him, for OUI-Drugs and Wanton Destruction of Property +$1200," the Holyoke Police Department shared. The wreckage left in the wake of this incident was significant enough that the Holyoke Department of Public Works had to be notified about the damages incurred by the memorial.
