To stand guard for the voiceless, DuPage County has armed its legal arsenal with an initiative dedicated to the well-being of animals. State’s Attorney Bob Berlin announced the launch of DuPage County's Animal Protection Unit, destined to bolster the enforcement of animal welfare laws. According to DuPage County, the new unit aims to hold animal abusers to account and align with larger national endeavors for animal rights.
Driven by clear intent and backed by key local partners, the unit unites specially trained prosecutors and law enforcement with community support to strengthen the fight against animal abuse. Their strategy, recognizing the interconnected sinews between animal cruelty and human harm, suggests that abuse against pets may signal or co-exist alongside domestic violence. "The creation of our new Animal Protection Unit is a significant step forward in the fight against animal cruelty in DuPage County," Berlin said, as stated by DuPage County.
Leading the new unit is a team of Assistant State’s Attorneys — Nicole English, Alyssa Rabulinski, Anthony Irsuto, and Samantha Musick — under the oversight of Assistant State’s Attorney Lee Roupas. "By providing the necessary resources and dedicated attention to these cases," Berlin added, "the Animal Protection Unit will ensure that offenders are held accountable and that animals in DuPage County receive the love, care and protection they deserve," as noted by DuPage County.
