On Tuesday evening, the Duxbury Police Department responded to a disturbance on Mile Brook Road around 6:15 PM. According to the Duxbury Police Department’s Facebook post, residents reported hearing a woman screaming and banging on walls and floors.
When officers arrived, they encountered a woman who appeared intoxicated and was behaving aggressively toward bystanders. Police attempted to calm the situation, but according to the department, the woman became combative when an officer retrieved her discarded alcoholic beverage. She allegedly tried to punch, kick, and bite officers during the encounter. The police report also noted that a pair of handcuffs was bent during the struggle.
After repeated warnings, officers used a Taser to subdue the woman and safely restrain her. The Duxbury Fire Department also responded to the scene to provide assistance.
Rather than arresting the woman at the scene, officers arranged for her to be transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment related to intoxication and possible mental health concerns. The police opted to pursue criminal charges through a summons instead of immediate custody.
The Duxbury Police Department stated that while charges will be filed, the decision to seek medical care first reflects the department’s approach to handling situations involving mental health and substance use.
