El Paso Community College's Student Government Association (SGA) is on a mission to directly engage with and improve student life on campus. According to EPCC News, the SGA is a group of student leaders dedicated to planning events, addressing issues on campus, and supporting student initiatives with the ultimate aim of building a more inclusive community.
Members find their roles in SGA to be not just transformative but also deeply meaningful. “One of my favorite parts is just being in English with other students," said SGA Secretary Arleth Tobayo, as per EPCC News. Their initiatives are wide-ranging, from social mixers to larger events like Fall Fest and Teal Bash, and they have noticeably been working to quickly address student needs on campus.
Isaac Diaz, SGA President, expressed pride in the outcomes of their efforts. He emphasized the practical benefits that SGA's projects bring to the student body. “We had this project about feminine hygiene products. We worked for two months placing baskets in restrooms across every campus. Seeing it all come together and knowing it helps students—that really fulfilled me," said Diaz, as obtained by EPCC News.
For Luis Gonzalez, the SGA Vice President, the significance of the association's work extends beyond campus boundaries. “It's about the initiatives we lead like providing microwaves for students," he stated, as noted by EPCC News, underlining the broader impact of SGA's actions on the community. The association is also notable for its diversity, with representatives proudly advocating for their heritage and the greater good of students grappling with daily challenges.
