El Paso County's Sheriff's Office isn't letting up in its quest to clear the slate of outstanding warrants. In a recent surge of law enforcement, dubbed the Joint Warrant Initiative, the third such operation has netted 14 arrests, a move that aims to maintain the grip on countywide public safety, according to El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. Wednesday's crackdown was the latest collective push against outstanding warrants, an initiative that began in May and has brought the tally to 52 apprehensions thus far.
The latest action on June 18th was not a solo act. Sheriff Ugarte's team joined forces with Constable Frank Almada from Precinct 1, Constable Hector Bernal from Precinct 3, Constable Luis “Louie” Aguilar from Precinct 4, Constable Javier Garcia from Precinct 6, and Constable Angie Sommers from Precinct 7. These collaborations, despite the complexity, have emerged as the backbone of the current strategy to reinforce public safety. "Our team remains committed to holding individuals with outstanding warrants accountable,” as per El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “I’m thankful for the continued hard work of the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office and appreciative of our Constables for their support in this joint initiative."
El Paso residents have watched as the Joint Warrant Initiative rolled out its first and second operations, scooping up 21 and 17 individuals, respectively. Each action appears to be an escalation, a methodical approach crafting a tapestry of deterrence and demonstrating the county's resolve to uphold the rule of law. The anticipation is that these recurrent operations might not just nab those with their names already etched into warrants, but also discourage future misdemeanors through visible law enforcement presence and activity.
