Early morning on Tuesday, an El Paso County Sheriff's Office patrol unit, while conducting a routine check at the Econo Lodge Hotel, caught a break in a motor vehicle theft case. According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, deputies stumbled upon a black Chevrolet Silverado in the hotel's parking area, its license plate flagged as speculative fiction.

The reported stolen vehicle in March was found unoccupied, and it didn't take deputies long to link the car to Brandy Cheeks, 33. In her possession, keys to the stolen vehicle were located alongside approximately 0.57 grams of methamphetamine.

A search within the Chevrolet unveiled a hodgepodge of mail, checks, and documents all bearing Cheeks' name, made out to various recipients. Several blank checks were also recovered, indicating a propensity for forgery.

After liaising with the hotel staff, deputies were able to track down Cheeks to her room. They were greeted by indisputable evidence tying her to multiple allegations of theft, as well as an active felony warrant for Identity Theft staring them in the face. Cheeks was arrested and faced multiple charges, including Felony Warrant Identity Theft, Forgery, second-degree Motor Vehicle Theft, and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office reported.
