The El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) Board of Trustees is set to once again consider the future of Superintendent Diana Sayavedra in a special meeting scheduled for Tuesday. The meeting follows a previous five-hour session where Sayavedra's employment was discussed but not resolved. The upcoming meeting, which will address the same topic, is slated for 4 p.m. at the EPISD Administration Building, as reported by KTSM.
The situation has been complicated by internal disagreements among board members, with trustee Daniel Call vocally supporting Sayavedra. Call has accused Board President Leah Hanany of engaging in a "personal vendetta" against the superintendent. He also highlighted recent academic improvements under Sayavedra's leadership, saying, "On Friday, the latest academic numbers came in and the results are clear: with Superintendent Diana Sayavedra at the helm, El Paso ISD is making amazing gains nearly across the board," according to the El Paso Times.
Meanwhile, the specifics of the discussions surrounding Sayavedra's job performance or potential dismissal remain confidential. A board member, speaking on the condition of anonymity, emphasized that details could not be shared to protect the superintendent's privacy. "This is to protect the superintendent's privacy, above all. I understand that this is frustrating for the public, but it is the right thing to do once these discussions have begun," as per the El Paso Times.
When Call leveled further criticism toward Hanany and trustee Jack Loveridge, suggesting that the meeting was scheduled at an inconvenient time to push a secretive agenda, he stated, "How does our embattled Board President, Leah Hanany, and her lackey Jack Loveridge respond? By scheduling a meeting at a time when most people cannot attend to attempt to fire Diana Sayavedra again with zero cause and to replace her with a crony who will do their bidding," Call stated, as reported by KFOX-TV. Attempts to reach other board members for comment were not immediately successful.
