Residents of Pima County are on high alert as a series of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have been uncovered within the span of a week. According to the FOX 10 Phoenix report, the first device was discovered on June 13, and two additional devices were found last Friday at Parque del Sol in Sahuarita. The Pima County Sheriff's Department, alongside the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), are actively engaging in the investigation to determine the origins of these hazardous threats.
The devices have been described as being "about four to six inches in length, two inches in width," and all were safely removed by the Bomb Squad. In a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, Kevin Adger from the Pima County Sheriff's Office has strongly urged the public "to stay alert and report any suspicious items or activity to local law enforcement. Do not touch or approach any suspicious devices. If you see something, say something." The involvement of the FBI and ATF signifies a coordinated federal response aimed at addressing the situation through established investigative procedures.
In an interview with FOX 10 Phoenix show "FOX 10 Talks," former ATF special agent in charge Bernard Zapor shared insight into such investigations. "Bombers often times think that any potential evidence, materials the devices were made with," Zapor said, emphasizing the meticulous nature of post-incident examinations.
Further reporting from KJZZ strengthens the call to action for any individuals possessing information regarding the IEDs. The public is encouraged to submit tips anonymously through the Pima County Sheriff’s Department or directly to 88CRIME.org.
