A firefighter sustained injuries during a home fire incident caused by a gas leak in Margate yesterday afternoon. According to WSVN, the blaze took place near River Drive and Margate Boulevard and was accompanied by an active gas leak. Despite the hazardous conditions posed by an underground gas line running beneath the house, fire crews were successful in extinguishing the flames.
Authorities have not yet ascertained the cause of the gas leak which led to a fire and a chain of minor explosions at the residence. As per Margate Talk, the incident necessitated a response from multiple agencies, including the Margate Fire Department, Hazmat teams from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the City of Sunrise, and Coconut Creek Fire Rescue. The firefighter, who was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, was later released, while the homeowner escaped unscathed.
Both publications report that the fire was under control by 1:30 p.m. and electricity was restored to the area's homes shortly thereafter. To mitigate the risk of re-ignition from the gas leak, fire crews maintained a water presence near a shed on the property, and Hazmat units were actively involved due to the dangerous potential of the underground gas line in close proximity to the home.
