Five individuals were rescued off the coast of Key Biscayne yesterday after their boat caught fire, causing a significant emergency response which included the U.S. Coast Guard and local fire rescue teams. The incident involved multiple agencies, with personnel from the Coast Guard's Miami Beach station and Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office aiding in the response, and was reported to have occurred around 10 a.m., roughly eight miles from Elliott Key in Biscayne Bay, according to CBS News Miami.
Photos shared by the Coast Guard depicted a towering column of smoke as the fire raged aboard the vessel, this spectacle clearly visible from Miami Beach as described by Local 10. The agency shared on social media that a good Samaritan was instrumental in the rescue, swiftly transporting the five boaters back to shore where they were confirmed to be in good health, despite the harrowing circumstances they just escaped.
The owner of the boat utilized a registered Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) to signal for help, which likely expedited the rescue efforts, as stated by the @USCGSoutheast X account.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and further details about the sequence of events leading up to the incident are still forthcoming, but what is clear as indicated by WSVN is the good Samaritan's quick action played a key role in ensuring the safe return of those on board; subsequent efforts by emergency crews were able to subdue the boat's flames, bringing the situation under control.
