A disturbing scene unfolded at a Midvale gas station where a woman was arrested for allegedly setting her boyfriend on fire amid an altercation. The violent incident, which took place late Friday night at a 7-Eleven on 210 W. 7200 South, is drawing widespread attention for its sheer horror and the subsequent legal charges facing the accused.
Unified Police responded to emergency calls around 11:15 p.m., where they discovered both a car and a man engulfed in flames, as reported by FOX13. Eyewitness accounts noted that the couple was involved in a heated argument before the woman allegedly doused the victim in a flammable liquid and set him alight.
Further details emerged via surveillance footage, as documented by KSL, showing the man "running around with his clothing ablaze." The victim sustained severe burns to his back, head, and extremities, which incapacitated him from providing a statement to the authorities. Conversely, after the act, the suspect, identified as Nelson, reportedly left the scene without rendering aid to the victim on fire.
Amid the chaos, a bystander with a fire extinguisher managed to put out the vehicle fire, while firefighters attended to the man's injuries. As the investigation progressed, the severity of Nelson's actions led to severe legal repercussions. According to KUTV, Nelson, who has a criminal history including convictions for burglary and providing false information to police, among others, is now facing charges of aggravated arson and attempted murder.
