An Oakland County teacher has been arraigned on charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct after she was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student. Jocelyn Sanroman, a 26-year-old former teacher at Oakside Prep Academy in Waterford Township, has been charged following what has turned out to be a two-year-long investigation into the allegations. The reports emerging from ClickOnDetroit and FOX 2 Detroit have detailed the arraignment and the charges.
The alleged incidents reportedly occurred in 2023, but it wasn't until Sanroman disclosed the relationship to another faculty member that the investigation began. Allegedly having failed to keep such a compromising scenario to herself, Sanroman is said to have told a fellow teacher, who responsibly reported the situation to the authorities. Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald condemned Sanroman's actions, stating, "This defendant is accused of using her position of authority to exploit a minor victim," as obtained by Hoodline. If convicted on the charges, Sanroman could be looking at up to 15 years of incarceration.
The Oakside Prep Academy has promptly responded to the situation, albeit with restricted details due to privacy rights and the ongoing legal process. A spokesperson for the school described the allegations as "unsettling to everyone in our school community," further emphasizing the school's commitment to student safety and acting immediately upon learning of the allegations. They reinforced that providing a "safe and supportive learning environment" remains the top priority, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit.
