The City of Fort Lauderdale has partnered with Insituform Technologies to conduct a detailed inspection of the sewer mains and laterals located beneath city streets. Delving within the boundaries of the Intracoastal Waterway to the west, A1A/N. Ocean Boulevard to the east, NE 29th Street at the northern edge down to NE 19th Street to the south, crews are recording the innards of the city's pipes. This initiative, which the City of Fort Lauderdale detailed on their official website, aims to gather vital data that'll inform future maintenance and make sure the sewer system stays on top of its game.
The crew's endeavors kicked off back in May of this year and if all goes according to plan, they'll be wrapping up by mid-July; for the locals, this means business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays could come with a side of traffic inconvenience although the city promises to keep driveways accessible and direct traffic around their work, street and lane closures along A1A/N. Ocean Boulevard is among the areas where crews will access the underground sewer system, using the familiar manholes that line the roadway.
Despite the potential for some disruptions, the City of Fort Lauderdale is providing residents with advance notice and clear recommendations. Notifications will be issued at least one week before work begins on each street to ensure adequate time for preparation. To minimize any inconvenience, the city advises residents to keep toilet lids closed and to pour water down all drains regularly—this helps maintain a crucial water barrier in the traps. Additionally, a simple daily routine is recommended: remove your cleanout cap each morning and replace it each night. This small step could help prevent unexpected backups or overflows in the event of issues with the main sewer lines, as reported by the city's website.
