
A tense standoff in Fort Wayne ended late last night without injury as police took a barricaded suspect into custody following a domestic disturbance call. The Fort Wayne Police Department was alerted to the situation in the 5100 block of Northcrest Drive around 7:00pm yesterday. According to the report obtained from the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers responded to a call involving a protective order violation by an individual known to carry a firearm.
The initial response by law enforcement saw the suspect entering a residence and refusing to leave, prompting extended attempts to peacefully resolve the encounter. Eventually, specialized units, including the Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team, and Air Support Unit, were dispatched to assist. These teams were reported to have been on scene around 8:15pm, trying to to peacefully encourage the suspect to exit the residence.
The situation drew on into the evening as all attempts made by officers to contact and coax the suspect out were met with refusal. The Fort Wayne Police Department has stated that there were threats of self-harm made by the suspect during the course of the incident, which contributed to the careful approach taken by the responding units. In light of these threats, the police demonstrated restraint and caution to avoid escalating the situation further.
After several hours, the standoff concluded at approximately 11:20pm, with the suspect being taken into custody without incident. No further details about the suspect's identity or the nature of the domestic disturbance have been released at this time. The police statement indicates that this incident remains under active investigation by both the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office. Officer A.
