The Town of Fountain Hills and Republic Services have jointly announced the beneficiaries of their 2025 Non-Profit Grant Program. Two local non-profits, Mary Ellen & Robert McKee Boys & Girls Club and Fountain Hills Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, are set to receive $5,000 each, totalling a $10,000 investment into local community initiatives.
These grants underscore a sustained collaboration between the town and the waste management giant, which has been providing several key community services for over a decade. Mayor Gerry Friedel extolled this partnership, noting, "For more than ten years, Republic has been a reliable partner to Fountain Hills, consistently delivering essential services like curbside recycling and trash pickup." In a statement obtained by the Town of Fountain Hills, the mayor highlighted the corporation’s engagement with the locale, from its active role in the community to environmental events that benefit the town.
The grant program champions non-profit activities that nurture environmental stewardship, bolster the natural beauty of the area, and offer educational opportunities amongst other community-centric goals. Melissa Krueger, Municipal Manager of Metro Phoenix at Republic Services, shared her perspective on what this funding represents: "At Republic Services, our commitment to the communities we serve extends beyond the services we provide." Krueger echoed the mayor’s sentiments, expressing excitement for the projects and their prospective influence on the community.
The selection process for the grant was competitive, with a panel reviewing a total of nine applications. The critical criterion for evaluation was the potential impact on the community, particularly how a project or program could enhance the livelihood of Fountain Hills residents at large.
