
The City of Franklin's Fire Department has released its run report for May 2025, revealing a total of 954 calls, with the majority being Rescue and EMS-related incidents. According to the social media post, the department responded to 641 Rescue & EMS calls, alongside a variety of other emergencies including fires, hazardous conditions, and severe weather situations. Of note in the reported fire calls were four passenger vehicle fires and three building fires, one of which required mutual aid response on May 25 at Redwing Farms.
The bulk of the department's work involved medical emergencies, with 477 instances of EMS calls recorded. Other notable Rescue & EMS figures include 48 medical assists, 43 motor vehicle accidents with injuries, and 30 calls that were canceled upon arrival. Unfortunately, the month of May also witnessed tragic incidents, one such being a fatal vehicle accident in the early hours of May 28 on South Margin Street, which claimed the life of a passenger. The driver sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
A person using a motorized wheelchair was also struck by a vehicle while crossing Mallory Lane at Spring Creek Drive on May 1. The incident highlights the pressing safety concerns for pedestrians and those requiring mobility aids in the city's streets. After being hit, the individual was transported to the hospital with injuries. The Franklin Fire Department's detailed account of each emergency underscores the range and severity of calls they manage monthly, reflecting the vital role they play in maintaining public safety.
Beyond the headline-grabbing incidents, the report also sheds light on the 102 false alarms and 84 good intent calls, pointing to an ongoing challenge for emergency services in distinguishing between genuine and non-urgent calls. The frequency and diversity of these incidents show the continuous demand placed on the Franklin Fire Department and emphasizes the importance of community awareness and safety education to mitigate preventable emergencies.
