Traffic resumed its usual pace on Galt Ocean Drive at dawn today, following a night of underground probing by city crews. The road was reopened at 5:30 a.m. after being closed to locate a critical water main valve near 3400 Galt Ocean Drive, the City of Fort Lauderdale reported.
Last night, operations led to both lanes at the entrance to Greek Islands Taverna being cordoned off, nestled between the towering edifices of Southpoint Condominium and L'Hermitage Condominium, work that was essential but also sent drivers on an improvised detour via A1A/N. Ocean Boulevard at NE 36th Street.
Residents experienced minor disruptions from bright lights and the occasional noise of machinery during the nighttime work. Wyman Allen, Utilities Distribution & Collection Chief for the City of Fort Lauderdale, assured the public that "The contractor will take measures to reduce light and noise impacts for surrounding neighbors," as noted by the city's advisory.
According to city officials, essential services—such as running water—remained uninterrupted throughout the underground work.
