An investigation has been launched by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) following an officer-involved shooting incident that left one man injured at the Atlanta Airport Hilton in Hapeville. The GBI was called in at the behest of the local police department to look into the events that transpired last Saturday morning, as reported by the GBI's official news release.

The situation unfolded when a 911 call was made around 3:45 a.m. last Saturday, reporting that gunshots were heard from a neighboring hotel room, according to the same GBI statement. Hapeville Police Department arrived at the scene and attempted communication with the suspect, identified as Michael Jermaine Boyce, 41, from College Park, GA, boyce allegedly opened fire from within the room as officers tried to negotiate, leading to them securing the area and calling for backup from the Fulton County PD SWAT team.

The SWAT personnel, upon their arrival, breached Boyce's hotel room; they used tear gas and continued to issue orders for him to surrender. The GBI released details how Boyce chose to ignore the commands and subsequently charged towards the officers, resulting in him being shot. He was then transported to a local hospital for the injuries he sustained during the incident.

In the aftermath, the GBI is set to carry out a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the precise chain of events, the findings of which will then be handed to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for further review. Boyce's condition after receiving hospital treatment has not been disclosed as the investigation remains ongoing.
