
A tragic accident happened in Gilbert on Wednesday evening, when a two-year-old child drowned in a backyard pool. Police were called just before 7:30 PM to a home on the 1600 block of Leah Lane. Officers arrived to find the child unresponsive and began life-saving efforts. The child was taken to the hospital by Gilbert Fire & Rescue but was sadly pronounced dead later that evening, according to the Gilbert Police Department.
The Gilbert Police Department is still investigating what led to the drowning. In a statement, they said, "Our hearts go out to the child’s loved ones during this devastating time." The incident is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers pools can pose, especially for young children.
