Glendale has officially appointed Colby Brandt as their new Chief of Police for the Glendale Police Department, according to a recent announcement by City Manager Kevin Phelps. With 28 years of service under his belt, Brandt, who stepped in as the interim chief for the past four months, has now been given the reins permanently. The city's press release emphasized his deep roots in the community and history with the department.
Phelps shared in the statement, "In Glendale, we have been fortunate to have been able to promote exceptional leaders into the position of Police Chief who have served at all ranks within the department and reflect the values that make us special." He added, “Colby Brandt embodies this tradition of homegrown leadership. He not only brings a wealth of experience, but he also understands our community and cares about it deeply.” This transition occurs at a time when public trust in law enforcement is closely examined, with the city presenting Brandt as a leader able to balance authority and community relations, according to the City of Glendale.
Brandt's career has spanned various leadership roles within the department, including Assistant Chief. His priority areas as he steps into this new role include enhancing traffic safety and ensuring Glendale continues to be a welcoming place for both residents and visitors. His understanding of local dynamics is rooted in his own experiences, growing up in Glendale and working his way up within the police force.

He acknowledged the mentorship he received throughout his career, and expressed gratitude towards his family, elected officials, city management, and the community for their support. His educational accomplishments include a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and a Master of Science in Homeland Security, alongside leadership training from prestigious law enforcement programs.
Brandt assumes the role with a background in law enforcement as a second-generation officer. He has been married for 30 years, and one of his children is currently serving in the United States Air Force. His longstanding service with the Glendale Police Department and ties to the community are part of his professional history as he takes on the responsibilities of chief, aligned with the city's stated focus on safety, partnership, and ongoing development.
