Over the past weekend, a fire claimed the lives of three individuals, including two children, in Goshen, New York. According to a report from NBC New York, the fire broke out at a home on Pulaski Highway just after 8 p.m. last Saturday, where firefighters and State Police were dispatched for reports of a blaze with individuals trapped inside.
Despite efforts to rescue those inside, a 50-year-old man identified as Shane Munn was found deceased within the residence. The two children, pulled from the burning structure, were urgently taken to a hospital but succumbed to their injuries, as per officials cited by Spectrum News. The children, aged 12 and 17, attended the local Florida Union Free School District, which has since announced that grief counselors and mental health professionals will be available to help their classmates cope with the tragedy.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with several agencies working together to determine the events leading up to it. The identities of the young victims have not yet been disclosed.
"These students were well-liked and always brightened a room when they entered," Superintendent Lisamarie Spindler remarked in a statement given to Spectrum News. The Red Cross has stepped in to offer assistance to the bereaved family. "Our strength lies in our unity, and I know the Florida community will rise with love and compassion," added Spindler in her acknowledgement that the communal bond will be essential in helping them navigate this difficult time.
