A pedestrian tragically lost their life in Gresham on the evening of May 31, after being struck by a vehicle in a traffic accident that occurred on NE 181st Avenue. The Gresham Police, accompanied by medical personnel, arrived at the scene around 5:30 pm, near NE Pacific Street, after receiving a report about the collision. Despite attempts to save the individual's life, the victim was pronounced dead at the location where the incident took place, as Gresham Oregon's official news portal documented.
The vehicle involved in the fatal incident, after hitting the pedestrian, also collided with a power pole. Fortunately, triggered by the crash, no power outages followed. While investigating the crime scene, NE 181st Avenue was subsequently closed to traffic for multiple hours stretching from NE Glisan Street to NE Wasco Street, disrupting the urban flow in its quiet rebellion against order.
Responsibility for spearheading the investigations has been handed to the East Multnomah County Vehicular Crimes Team (VCT), as they work to piece together the factors that led up to the crash. Critical among the details being scrutinized is whether impairment played a role, an element that would add a layer of preventable tragedy to the event. The driver of the implicated vehicle remained at the scene, actively cooperating with law enforcement, a glimmer of responsibility in an otherwise dark tableau.
