A multi-million dollar electronics theft ring that has been operating across Georgia and further was brought to its knees following a comprehensive seven-month investigation by the Gwinnett County Police Department's General Crimes Unit. According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, the criminal enterprise was dismantled after a series of targeted busts that led to the recovery of over 5,000 stolen electronic devices and the seizure of significant assets, including $1.2 million in cash and several firearms.
The investigation saw its first significant break when two individuals, Cristopher Guerrero and Aldopher Valdez Sosa, were apprehended in the act of porch piracy. Their capture and the subsequent surveillance and data analysis pointed to a wider network of illegal activity that spanned multiple counties and potentially crossed international borders. As a result, a string of meeting spots and a schedule of illicit transactions were unveiled, paving the way for the swoop on the organization.
Search warrants executed on May 29 were the culmination of extensive collaborative efforts involving various units of the Gwinnett County Police Department and external agencies such as the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations. The synchronized action led to the arrest of ten suspects, and over 2,000 of the recovered devices were confirmed as stolen or fraudulently obtained, which has since been returned to their respective carriers. Among those arrested were Kong Zhen Ni, Sunquan Ni, Zi Qi Fu, and several others who now face charges under the Georgia Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
Following the bust, law enforcement and wireless carriers have worked diligently for more than a week, cataloging the devices and coordinating the return of the stolen goods to their owners. The ongoing investigation is spearheaded by the GCPD's General Crimes Unit in partnership with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office, and the State Attorney General’s Office, ensuring that thorough justice is being pursued for all parties involved.
