A 35-year-old man from Harvard lost his life in a vehicle accident early this morning, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. The single-vehicle crash happened near the rural town of Harvard, and it has sparked a local investigation.
The incident was reported at around 6:56 a.m. and emergency personnel were dispatched to the 19000 block of Hebron Road in unincorporated Harvard. A 1997 GMC Sierra, for reasons yet to be uncovered, veered off the roadway while heading eastbound on Hebron Road, just east of US Route 14. The series of events leading to this conclusion are still unclear, with the vehicle ultimately striking a utility pole and overturning before coming to rest on its roof. McHenry County Sheriff's Office confirmed these details in a recent statement.
The response to the crash included the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, McHenry County Conservation Police, Harvard Fire Protection District, and the Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District. Upon arrival, first responders discovered the truck overturned and the driver, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations into the incident are currently being conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit alongside the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. As of now, the specific cause that prompted the driver to lose control of the GMC Sierra remains a subject of inquiry. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the crash to come forward to aid in the investigation.
