The Holyoke Police Department has confirmed the arrest of a suspect connected to a recent shooting incident in the city. Chief Brian Keenan announced that the effective work of the Holyoke Police Detective Bureau was instrumental in apprehending the individual yesterday.
An initial response by Holyoke Police Officers took place on May 26 at around 6:15 p.m., near Race and Dwight Streets, where they discovered an adult male victim with non-life-threatening injuries from a shooting. The officers managed to quickly provide a suspect description, something crucial in guiding the investigation forward. Officer John Wagner was credited with this assistance, which was central to not only developing but also to eventually pinpoint the suspect's location.
Detective Michael Everett and Lieutenant Jorge Monsalve led the charge in tracing the suspect's vehicle to Clemente Street. Their methodology was thorough, relying on a combination of gathered intelligence and the visual confirmation through video footage secured by Detective Jared Hamel. This footage, featuring the suspect and the vehicle, placed them squarely in the vicinity of Clemente Street, where the vehicle would later be recovered.
Through sustained investigative efforts, Detectives Everett and David Seidel were successful in identifying Victor Manuel-Pirela as the suspect. With a warrant secured by Detective Seidel, the Massachusetts State Police VFAS apprehended Manuel-Pirela inside an apartment in Springfield the following day at approximately 1:00 p.m. Following the arrest, the suspect was brought back to Holyoke for booking.
The charges laid against 33-year-old Victor Manuel-Pirela are severe and numerous, including an arrest warrant for firearm-armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and various firearms and ammunition possession violations. Additional charges also encompass identity fraud and the forging or misuse of RMV documents.
