Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents face scrutiny following their latest actions at a San Francisco immigration court. As first reported by KRON4, local immigration attorney Alex Lubarsky witnessed his client being detained right after an asylum hearing, igniting fear amongst other migrants with pending court dates. In a chilling moment, Lubarsky articulated, "I’ve never had a client until today that was detained at their court hearing. Essentially, he was ambushed today in court."

The situation took an even more dire turn when KTVU reported that at least 15 individuals, including a young child, were arrested by ICE this Wednesday. SF Supervisor Jackie Fielder condemned these arrests, saying they "sow panic and fear among San Francisco's vast immigrant communities." Those detained are allegedly marked for immediate deportation, with some having spent the night in facilities not designed for long-term detainment. Priya Patel from the California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice expressed concerns about the conditions, stating, "It is our understanding these families were sleeping on the floors of their cells."

These aggressive tactics by ICE come amid a notable ramp-up in arrests, spearheaded by the Trump administration. Millie Atkinson of the Justice and Diversity Center speculated to KTVU, "We think it has to do with quotas and directives from higher ups showing that local ICE offices will be penalized if they're not hitting a certain number of arrests and calling people in who they know will show up voluntarily is the easiest way for them to detain people."
