
A serious collision on Sunday afternoon in Harvard involving an SUV and a semi-truck required the airlift of one individual to the hospital. According to information provided by NBC Chicago, the incident occurred in unincorporated Harvard at the crossroads of Route 173 and Crowley Road.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash shortly after 2:30 p.m., with the Harvard Fire Protection District responding to calls detailing a multi-vehicle accident with entrapment. WGN TV reports, the driver of the SUV, who had collided with the semi-truck, was subsequently trapped within his vehicle, which had veered off the road into a nearby wooded area.
Fire crews, aided by an additional engine from the Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District, worked to extricate the SUV driver, as per NBC Chicago. The victim was airlifted with serious injuries to Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside in Rockford. On the other hand, the semi-truck driver did not report any injuries as a result of this event.
As a consequence of the crash and the subsequent rescue efforts, Route 173 was closed in both directions for around two hours. The McHenry County Sheriff's Department is investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision, WGN TV notes.
