Attention drivers and late-night travelers: Interstate 5 in Portland is set to temporarily close for a stretch around NE Broadway come Thursday night. According to a bulletin released by the Oregon Department of Transportation, Pacific Power is gearing up to install new power lines across the interstate, necessitating the shutdown from 11 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, until 4 a.m. Friday morning.
During this window, drivers will need to quickly adjust and follow the designated detour route. "Please plan a little extra time into your trip if you are traveling on I-5 in Portland on Thursday night after 11 p.m.," the Oregon Department of Transportation stated.
Construction and utility crews will be active throughout the closure period, setting up and dismantling the required detour infrastructures. For these on-the-ground workers, the safety risks are real, so the ODOT urges those passing by to "please slow down and watch out" for the personnel involved.
