The Memphis Police Department is conducting an investigation following a small plane crash near the General DeWitt Spain Airport yesterday. According to Action News 5, officers were called to the scene at 2787 North Second Street at approximately 4:53 p.m. No casualties or injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
Further details emerged from WREG, which shared that the aircraft, which was carrying two passengers, made an unexpected landing in a field south of the airport around 4:30 PM. The Federal Aviation Administration has been alerted and is coordinating an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. At present, the factors leading to this emergency landing remain unclear.
FOX13 Memphis reached out to the MPD for additional insights; however, details about what may have led to the off-course landing are yet to be disclosed. The vicinity of the crash site is located north of Harbor Town, in a nearby field off North Second Street, a short distance from the airport's location.
