A high-speed chase on Cape Cod involving a stolen vehicle ended in a crash late Saturday night, with the juvenile suspect ultimately being apprehended the following morning. According to a report from NBC Boston, the pursuit began when Barnstable police officers chased a reported stolen vehicle along Route 149 north, nearing Route 6 at Exit 65 around 11:30 p.m. State troopers in the vicinity joined the chase as the vehicle entered Route 6 east, where it soon crashed near mile marker 67.2.
The driver fled into the woods, leading to a search involving a police perimeter. State police referred inquiries regarding the identity of the suspect to the Barnstable police. Cape Wide News detailed that the incident initiated at Domino’s Pizza in the Marstons Mills area, where the vehicle, a Toyota Scion, was reported stolen at about 10:40 p.m. The vehicle was later identified but its driver refused to stop for police, igniting the chase that resulted in a collision with a Subaru Forester and injuries to three individuals, which were reported as not life-threatening.
The aftermath of the crash had police leveraging a K9 dog and a Massachusetts State Police helicopter to comb the area around the Hyannis Golf Course through the night, but the suspect managed to elude capture during this initial search. As per the authorities, the suspect was a juvenile and police were unable to disclose their name.
The suspect was eventually found the next morning around 7:40 a.m., thanks to alert golfers at the Hyannis Golf Course who reported a suspicious, shoeless man. Barnstable Police responded swiftly to the scene and took the young suspect into custody. "Golfers at the course called them to report a suspicious man with no shoes on the course," Cape Wide News reported on how the police were alerted to the suspect's presence. The juvenile's capture brought an end to the incident, with the crash still under investigation by state police and the vehicle theft remaining under investigation by Barnstable police.
