A Knoxville apartment building was engulfed in flames on a recent Saturday afternoon, leaving fourteen residents without a home. The call to 911 was made just before 4 PM. When fire crews arrived, they encountered a significant blaze emanating from the building's second story, according to the Knoxville Fire Department (KFD).
Crews reportedly had the fire under control within ten minutes, working to contain the flames largely to one unit and part of the external upper deck. Despite arriving there, the rest of the building sustained only mild smoke damage, as reported by WBIR. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the blaze, KFD said.
Following the incident, the Knoxville Utilities Board was required to cut the building's power, necessitating the evacuation of all residents. The resulting displacement affected 14 individuals, per KFD, and the American Red Cross is currently assisting those affected, offering them aid in the wake of the fire.
KFD investigators are determining the cause of the fire that left one apartment with moderate fire damage. "The fire was contained to one unit and a portion of the outside deck on the upper floor," KFD's Mark Wilbanks told WVLT.
