
In Knoxville, Tennessee, turmoil befell the community after an altercation involving a Knox County sheriff's deputy. Around 10:15 pm on June 21, Deputy Dalton Swanger responded to a call about gunshots on the 7800 block of Stanley Road. The encounter with the alleged assailant resulted in severe injuries for Swanger, who the suspect struck with what was reported to be a large rock or brick. Swanger was subsequently rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and remains in critical condition in the ICU, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
Law enforcement conducted a search for the assailant whom they have now apprehended, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. A brief Facebook update from the Knox County Sheriff's Office stated, "The suspect is in custody at this time. The Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation." Names and the list of charges are expected to be disclosed soon. Sheriff Tom Spangler has asked for communal support, saying, "I am at the hospital with Deputy Swanger and asking our community to do what they do best, pray."
Prior to the suspect's apprehension, concerns about safety loomed in the community where the incident took place. Yet with the suspect now in custody, the focus has shifted to the recovery of Deputy Swanger and the ongoing investigation. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude, noting, "We appreciate your prayers and are grateful for the support from our community."
