Early Wednesday morning, Knoxville firefighters responded to a blaze in West Knoxville that caused substantial damage to a residence and ended in the tragic loss of a pet cat. According to WVLT, the call came in around 2 a.m. for a house fire on the 1300 block of West 4th Ave. Upon arrival, firefighters were greeted by a man who claimed that the fire had started in the bedroom and assured them that all occupants, including himself, a dog, and a cat, were safe outside.
The Knoxville Fire Department swiftly tackled the flames, which were notably intense at the back of the property. The fire was controlled within minutes of their arrival, as reported by WATE. Despite the rapid response, the rear of the home sustained heavy smoke, water, and fire damage. The male resident was not in the house when the fire broke out; however, the cat was unfortunately found deceased in the aftermath, crews confirmed.
Knoxville's fire investigators are currently probing the cause of the conflagration. In a gesture of support, the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident, offering relief amidst the calamity. This information comes from statements gathered by WBIR, which also noted the ongoing efforts to unravel the fire's origin.
