Attorney General Kris Mayes has delivered justice in the case of Robert Gilbert Berghofer, a La Paz County resident convicted on charges related to possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material. As reported by the Attorney General's office, Berghofer has been handed down a 17-year sentence to be served in the Department of Corrections, followed by a lifetime of probation.

On June 5, Berghofer faced the gravity of the law, with the court mandating a strict post-release regimen involving GPS monitoring, or its equivalent technology. Adding financial accountability to justice served, the courts have ordered Berghofer, upon his release, to pay $10,000 in restitution to the victim, attempting to salve wounds with the salting of monetary compensation.

Attorney General Mayes emphasized the priority of protecting vulnerable children, stating, "There is no higher priority than safeguarding the most vulnerable among us." Mayes’ office vows to collaborate with law enforcement across Arizona to combat child exploitation sternly. In her commitment, she declares, "This sentence sends a clear message that we will not tolerate crimes against children, and we will do everything in our power to identify predators, bring them to justice, and prevent future harm," as mentioned on the Arizona Attorney General Office website.

In addition to the prison term and restitution, Berghofer will also be required to register as a sex offender for each count.
