Residents of a Mesquite Avenue apartment complex were rattled but unharmed after a fire broke out last Saturday morning, according to official reports. At 11:24 a.m., smoke was first noted billowing in a first-floor hallway by a quick-thinking occupant. Lake Havasu City Fire Department responded promptly, with a battalion chief confirming a working kitchen fire in a ground-floor apartment unit.
It has been reported that four engine companies, a truck company, a medic unit, and a battalion chief responded to the fire. Gaining control within a mere 17 minutes, the LHCFD’s swift action averted a potentially disastrous escalation. The entire complex, which houses multiple families stacked in two-story buildings, was evacuated safely despite the rapidly spreading smoke leading to potential confusion.
No injuries were reported among the evacuated residents or the firefighters, a testament to the careful coordination of first responders at the scene. The Lake Havasu City Fire Department Community Emergency Response Team (LHCFD CERT), consisting of nine members, was on hand to provide Rehab duties, supporting the vital efforts of the fire crews to remain effective and safe.
After extinguishing the flames, firefighters stayed on the scene for an additional two and a half hours, conducting thorough salvage and overhaul operations to prevent any rekindling of fire. The cause of the apartment fire is currently under investigation, as reported by the Lake Havasu City.
