
Las Cruces authorities are actively investigating a tragic incident where a pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a vehicle late last week. According to the City of Las Cruces, the collision occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Boutz Road and El Paseo Road.
Responding emergency services found 48-year-old Juan A. Haro with severe injuries after a black Cadillac CTS, traveling west on Boutz Road, struck him while he was crossing the street, and despite efforts to save his life, Haro was pronounced dead at the scene. The young driver, a 17-year-old, was operating the Cadillac, which was impounded by the police as part of the ongoing investigation, and while the vehicle has been seized for further inspection, the driver has yet to face any charges as authorities continue their inquiry.
The investigation into this fatal encounter remains underway, with the Las Cruces police not having filed any charges at this moment. The incident prompts concerns over pedestrian safety and driver awareness in the city, issues that resurface in the wake of such tragedies.
