
Las Cruces authorities are actively seeking information from the community regarding the death of a local man found near a bus stop on East Lohman Avenue. Luther Lewis Gilbert, who was 63, was discovered by first responders this past Thursday afternoon following multiple reports to 911 about a man lying in a troubling state.
Police and fire departments were called to the scene at around 4:30 p.m. on June 12, where they found Gilbert with injuries to his face and experiencing a medical condition known as agonal breathing, which often indicates severe distress. Despite attempts to quickly save his life, he was pronounced dead shortly upon their arrival. As per the Las Cruces Police Department, efforts to comprehend the full context of the situation and to possibly uncover foul play are underway.
The location of the incident, positioned between Nacho Drive and Foothills Road, and adjacent to the Las Cruces Dam recreation area, is a bustling thoroughfare, urging detectives to believe there may be potential witnesses who have crucial information.
