Over the past weeks, the spate of small fires that flared up along Las Positas Corridor and near the Super 8 Motel in Livermore has led to an arrest, putting a temporary halt to the series of incidents that threatened public safety. Livermore authorities have identified 34-year-old Gilmar Portilla-Amaya as the alleged arsonist behind these dangerous acts.
According to a social media post by the Livermore Police Department, Portilla-Amaya was cornered during one of these fires, and subsequent investigations linked him to two additional arsons. While the Livermore community has been on edge amidst these sudden and reckless blazes, Portilla-Amaya is now facing the heat of the law with three counts of arson against him.
The Livermore Police have emphasized the role of the community in preempting such acts of arson by urging locals to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly.
