Lucid Motors, the electric vehicle manufacturer, has officially opened its new Phoenix hub on Wednesday, following the acquisition of former Nikola properties, reported by AZFamily.com. The strategic expansion includes a facility that was previously used as the headquarters of bankrupt competitor Nikola, aiming to bolster Lucid's presence and capabilities in the unforgiving EV market.

In a move to rebuild and innovate further, Lucid has acquired an 884,000-square-foot area from Nikola, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February. The additional sites in Phoenix and Coolidge will not only expand Lucid's production but also secure pivotal development grounds for their EVs, as Adrian Price, the company’s senior VP of Operations, told FOX 10 Phoenix. The Arizona Commerce Authority also released statements on the advancement, noting, "The Phoenix Hub will advance electric vehicle innovation and technologies and support Lucid's state-of-the-art manufacturing operations."

With this expansion, Lucid has found itself to opportunistically reemploy a significant number of the workforce impacted by Nikola's downfall. Over 300 jobs have been offered, with 250 of those individuals now joining Lucid's Coolidge facility.

Lucid's expansion is more than a mere growth tactic; it's a bright spot within an auto industry riddled with challenges, including new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. Price conveyed uncertainty regarding the impact of these tariffs on vehicle prices, yet was optimistic about Lucid's integrated approach. "I don't know. I think there's a big broader impact across the whole of the automotive industry, and Lucid is uniquely positioned because of our integration to more protect the customers from that, because so much of it is sourced locally or sourced in the U.S.," Price shared with FOX 10 Phoenix.

The company is not holding back on its ambitious plans. Lucid is pushing forward with the prototypes of a new midsize crossover anticipated to be priced under $50,000 and scheduled to begin production at the recently acquired Coolidge facility next year. This is a signal that amidst the bankruptcies and buyouts that have beleaguered Arizona's EV industry, Lucid is forging ahead, ready to charge full steam into the future of electric mobility.
