A disturbing incident at an American Canyon Walmart led to the arrest of a man on charges of animal cruelty. The American Canyon Police Department responded yesterday after receiving reports about a suspicious individual following a woman and her child through multiple businesses, as stated on their social media post.

The unnerved woman reported that the perpetrator had tailed her into Dunkin' Donuts, Panda Express, and Walmart. In a worrying display inside the retail giant, he added unrequested items to her shopping cart and another unsuspecting customer’s cart; this alarming behavior resulted in her reaching out to Walmart employees, who promptly dialed 911. As the situation grew more volatile, the man was said to have grabbed a bottle of harsh cleaning chemical and sprayed a small dog in its face belonging to another shopper, causing the pet to yelp and reel from the resulting chemical burns.

The American Canyon Police Department's post detailed that officers quickly converged upon the scene and apprehended the suspect outside the store. Although he initially attempted to mask his true identity with a falsified moniker, law enforcement deployed a mobile fingerprint scanner to establish him as 37-year-old Curtis Jonathan Anderson. Mr. Anderson has reportedly been homeless, finding refuge in various shelters scattered throughout the Bay Area.

Mr. Anderson was taken into custody and later booked into the Napa County Jail on a charge related to the animal's suffering. Since the incident, the dog has been receiving care and is reported to be on the mend, which is a small relief in the wake of such distressing events.
