A man was fatally shot on Southgate Street in Worcester on Friday evening last week. According to Worcester Police Department's Facebook page, officers responded to multiple calls around 7:40 PM and found the victim on the sidewalk. Despite efforts to provide medical aid, the man was later pronounced dead at the hospital. His identity has not yet been released pending family notification.
Police have arrested 26-year-old Antonio Canales-Martinez in connection with the shooting. He faces several charges, including Armed Assault to Murder, Assault and Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Assault and Battery with Serious Bodily Injury, and Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Dwelling.
The Crime Scene Unit recovered and processed the firearm used. The Detective Bureau is continuing the investigation.
