A tragic event occurred last night in north St. Louis, resulting in the death of a man following a hit-and-run incident. According to KSDK, the man was crossing the street at the intersection of West Florissant and Pope Avenues when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver involved did not remain at the scene.
Police were alerted to the crash around 7:30 p.m. as per the police 911 logs cited by First Alert 4. The victim was transported to a local hospital following the accident, where unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) is actively investigating the fatal collision. According to FOX 2 Now, the detectives were at the scene and temporarily closed West Florissant for investigation. SLMPD has promised that more details will be shared with the public as the investigation progresses.
Despite hit by the vehicle and leaving the scene, the suspect remains at large. SLMPD continues to appeal to anyone with information to come forward and assist in the case.
