A fatal vehicle collision on San Antonio Road, Palo Alto, has claimed the life of a man in his fifties. The incident, which occurred yesterday, has sparked an ongoing investigation by local authorities, according to the Palo Alto Police Department.
The collision was reported to the Palo Alto dispatch center at about 11:55 PM. Emergency services, including the Palo Alto Fire Department, arrived on the scene to discover the man unconscious inside a pickup truck that had struck a tree off the main roadway. Despite attempts to save him, the victim was later pronounced dead from his injuries at a local hospital.
According to the Palo Alto Police Department, a witness indicated that the vehicle had been "swerving across multiple lanes of traffic" before it veered off the road. The Palo Alto Police's Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) team has been involved in the investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident. At present, it's unclear whether substance influence played a role in the crash, and authorities have ruled out the involvement of other vehicles.
The area around the crash site was closed temporarily for around two hours as officers conducted their investigation, causing early morning traffic disruption.
