This week in Marietta, volunteers from Georgia's Own Credit Union partnered with MUST Ministries to address the problem of summer hunger among children. Their mission was straightforward but vital: pack 500 meals destined for the tables of young Georgians facing food insecurity. FOX 5 Atlanta reported on the initiative, highlighting the pressing need for sustenance with school cafeterias shuttered for summer.
The undertaking is no small task, given the intention of feeding at least 7,500 children across metro Atlanta throughout summer. The meals are more than just food; they're a bridge over the long gap left by the absence of free and reduced-cost lunches that the school year provides. According to WSB-TV, the $5,000 effort is part of a larger campaign by MUST Ministries to ensure that hunger does not fill the space where learning used to be.
Volunteers have assembled "Kids’ Kits" designed to nourish both the bodies and spirits of young recipients. Each kit includes five breakfasts and five lunches, featuring simple, easy-to-prepare items such as ramen noodles, oatmeal packets, breakfast bars, microwaveable pizza, and apple juice—providing convenient, nutritious meals for children on the go.
With help from groups like Georgia's Own Credit Union and MUST Ministries, summer is a little easier for some families. WSB-TV reports that the "Kids’ Kits" are essential for many children who lose access to free or low-cost school meals during the summer.
