Heads up, Las Cruces residents and Meerscheidt Recreation Center loyalists, your go-to spot for fitness and fellowship is about to get a facelift. Starting Monday, June 16, the center at 1600 E. Hadley Avenue is rolling up its sleeves for some much-needed renovations. The work will take place weekdays from the break of dawn at 7 a.m. straight through to the 6 p.m. evening calm.
For those worried about their daily grind or Zumba fix, fear not, Meerscheidt isn't shutting its doors. Access to the oasis of recreation will remain via the E. Hadley Avenue entrance. Even though the west side of the building is going to get the first dose of construction love, the rest of the center is poised to fully function. Still, amidst the buzz and clatter of revamp, the center's frequenters should be ready to rapidly adapt schedules and brace themselves for possible interruptions.
According to the City of Las Cruces, the spruce-up is a dance of phases, seemingly choreographed to impact daily operations minimally. The west side will be segregated from the hustle of daily activities, possibly making it seem like an alternate universe within the shared space of the center that's pulsing with energy and communal spirit.
